About the creators

 

Michele Laudig and Jason Garcia are a wife-and-husband creative team who took the leap to fulfill a dream when they moved from NYC to Japan in 2017. Now, with Finding Sublime, they’re bringing another dream to life with a platform for sharing stories of their discoveries in Japan. They currently split their time between the heart of Tokyo and the coast of the Izu Peninsula.

Michele has a deep relationship with Japan spanning more than three decades. She has a degree in East Asian Studies from Columbia University and has been studying Urasenke tea ceremony for 17 years. An award-winning creative strategist, Michele has worn many storytelling hats over a decade at Google, working on brand films, interactive experiences, and thought leadership. She started her career in journalism and was a longtime culture writer, editor, and restaurant critic for Village Voice Media. Michele’s passionate about mindfulness, wellbeing, historic preservation, and cultural exchange. 

 

Jason is a photographer and designer who shares his wife’s fascination with their adopted country – especially the history and food culture. Prior to living in Japan, he was the creative director for New York City's Economic Development Corporation, where he oversaw marketing creative for programs such as NYC x Design and Made in NY FASHION. Raised by artist parents in San Diego, California, Jason was practically born with a camera in his hands. Today, he enjoys nature and urban photography and developing his own film at home. He also has been in many bands throughout the years playing guitar, bass, and drums, and continues to create original music.
